Premises Types

Openreach has a classification for each of the different types of premises they support. Whilst the vast majority are classed as "Standard", use of the others will arise, such as "Site" which is used to refer to a temporary structure on a building site (the "Portakabin"). Below is a table showing the different premises types, a description for each and what types are lines are allowed to be installed.

Standard Residential and Business premises which have a postal address Y Y Y
Non Served Premises (NSP) Buildings/Equipment that wouldn't normally have an address or phone line - for instance traffic lights or a vending machine N Y N
Site A temporary office/building on a construction site N Y Y
Complex A premises type that requires investigation - such as a hospital, shopping centre, outbuildings on a site, a barn Y Y Y
Complex - Hot Site Sites used by the electricity industry where high voltage equipment is nearby Y Y Y
Complex - Ship A ship moored in dock N Y Y
New House A new build residential or business property that has not had a phone line previously installed Y Y Y

Once the type of Premises has been identified then the Portal provides the list of available line types for the user to select from - this means that the user is never requesting a premises/line type combination that is not possible, see below for an example:
